The MSPCA was established 1897 as a Manx charity to help injured, stray and unwanted animals. Since the early days, over a hundred years ago, the Society has strived to improve the quality of life and relieve suffering for animals in the Isle of Man. The organisation has developed significantly in recent years and moved into the purpose-built sanctuary at Ard Jerkyll in East Foxdale in July 1976. In July 1997 the MSPCA became a Society limited by guarantee.
In recent times the aviary and the small animal section have been redeveloped and improved significantly. The Society also raised money to develop a specialised area to care for and treat injured or sick baby seals. The funds have yet to be found to complete the deep pool.
