Seal Update November 2010
With the high winds and rough seas that we experienced at the end of October and during November we rescued and admitted four grey seal pups all in a very short space of time. Two were rescued from the beach at Port Erin, one from the car park at Scarlett and the other from Fleshwick. All were exhausted and underweight, one had cuts to its body from being bounced off the rocks in the rough seas and high winds and one had a severe infection around the tail flippers. They were all seen by the MSPCA vet and put on a course of antibiotics and tube fed a special fish soup as they were too small to eat on their own. Three of the grey seal pups responded to their medication very well and put weight on rapidly. Sadly the seal pup with the severe infection did not improve and passed away. The three other seal pups are all doing well and are now eating whole herrings on their own.
